American College of Surgeons Verified Trauma Center

Our team is at the ready 24 hours a day to care for patients who have sustained a traumatic injury.

Long Island Community Hospital demonstrates our commitment to trauma care by maintaining the highest standards required by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

As a Level III Trauma Center, we provide 24-hour immediate care by Emergency Medicine Physicians and a dedicated team of board certified critical care trauma surgeons.  This highly skilled team also includes anesthesiologists, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and neurologists, as well as nurses, rehabilitation specialists, and others, who are critical members of the trauma team, and supported by a strong affiliation with a Level I trauma center within our own system.

The continuum of care for care for these severe, potentially life-threatening or limb-threatening injuries begins with our in-house providers and specialists and culminates with a thorough assessment of patient needs and discharge planning.  At each level, we provide the highest level of quality care through evidenced-based best practices, ensuring that patients and their families are active participants.

Our commitment to enhancing trauma care in our community is demonstrated by an extensive quality assessment and continuing education programs.  These educational programs extend beyond our staff, to our pre-hospital EMS providers, who may initiate care before you arrive at our hospital, as well as clinicians at other hospitals.

Motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, falls, injuries due to violence, and other traumatic events require rapid, coordinated care.  Our ACS verified trauma center is here to provide that care for you and your family.
