Neurology
At Long Island Community Hospital, we offer expert neurological care for the treatment of a full range of neurological conditions such as back and neck pain, ALS, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, MS, Parkinson’s disease, brain injuries, stroke and tremor. Our neurologists diagnose and treat brain and spine conditions through a variety of modern technologies and treatments.
If you or a loved one are need of neurological testing, or inpatient care, you can be assured that you will receive up-to-date protocols, with the latest equipment, in an environment that is supportive and reassuring. We offer inpatient and outpatient testing for neurological conditions including brain imaging including MRI, CT, EMG/EEG, and carotid artery testing.
Our neurologists are important members of our Level III Trauma Center, Designated Stroke Center and provide expertise and medical care for neurological patients in our intensive care units and throughout the hospital.
Designated Stroke Center
Long Island Community Hospital is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Designated Stroke Center. We are also recognized by the American Stroke Association with the Stroke Gold Plus and Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus, the highest honor, for the Get with the Guidelines: Stroke. By meeting these requirements and guidelines, respectively, we consistently provide our patients with best practices and evidence-based care.
Through a well-organization stroke response alert system, from EMS responders to the Emergency Department to our Stroke Unit (a telemetry unit which allows for continuous monitoring of patients) our team works to ensure that stroke patients are treated swiftly and appropriately.
As part of the stroke team, Long Island Community Hospital has neurologists on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for expert consultation for patients experiencing stroke symptoms.
Our goal in the Stroke Center is to give our patients the greatest opportunity to recover and regain function. Whether in the Emergency Department, the Intensive Care Unit, the Stroke Unit or in the medical units, our physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, and other staff strive to provide the highest level of care and are focused on the importance of their individual role in ensuring the best outcomes for each patient.
