Hi guys, Mary back, I want to talk to you about Mason jar foods- We always tell patients the 2 key things when you’re watching your weight or changing how you’re eating or want a healthy lifestyle is to keep a food diary which we have talked about in the past and meal planning and prepping ahead of time. Now this jar trend is definitely not a new trend, but it is a new trend in my household so I wanted to bring it to you too. We found that our schedules are busier and tighter than ever and the best thing I ever discovered was getting these Mason jars; it takes me less than one hour in the beginning of the week to fill them up. I have my breakfasts, snacks and lunches ready to go; I open my refrigerator, I grab my jars and I’m off to work. I have my yoghurt parfait here so I layered the jar with (Greek) yoghurt and my fruits, I have my healthy snack which is hummus with a little bit of a seasoning that I love which is (called) Everything but the Bagel, along with peppers and carrot sticks and my salads. Sometimes I have lettuce-less salads which means I don’t put lettuce in them, sometimes they are basic like Caesar or Greek salads- I have my chicken, cheese, fruits, vegetables; you can add nuts in their too. The key to using Mason jars effectively and appropriately is to know how to layer- put the dressing on the bottom so that everything doesn’t get soggy- put the vegetables that don’t absorb the dressing well next and as you move up it will be your more sensitive vegetables or foods. Pick up a (cook) booK, any book that seems appealing where you can get some great ideas. The possibilities are endless but more importantly, you’re going to find that this is the EASIEST thing that you have ever incorporated into your lifestyle… Good luck – I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!!
