Lose Those Trans Fats!
Hi guys, Mary back; let’s talk a little bit more about trans-fats and why they are so problematic- Well we know trans-fats are linked to obesity, diabetes, coronary artery disease; but they are also linked to things like liver dysfunction, cancers, Alzheimer’s – even infertility.
Let’s pay close attention to make sure we are not consuming foods that have trans-fats in them!
When you’re looking at your Nutrition Facts Label, under the category of “Total Fat”, there is an area called “trans-fats”- you want to look at that number; the problem is that the food industry is permitted to write “0” grams or trans-fat free if a product contains less than 0.5 g of trans-fat per serving; so you also want to look at the Ingredients to make sure there is no partially hydrogenated oil or shortening listed.
In the example I have here, the product lists “0” grams of trans-fats, yet in the hilighted area, we can clearly see there is trans-fat in the product.
