Gauging Portion Sizes When Dining Out!
Hi guys, last time we spoke about the difference of servings vs. portions; and while it’s ideal to use your measuring cups and measuring spoons when you’re at home, it’s unlikely you’re going to take out your measuring cups and measuring spoons when you’re in a restaurant dining with your friends and family.
Here are some visuals you can use that can guide you through the process-
A 3-oz serving of chicken or meat is about the size of a deck of cards or about the palm of your hands.
A 3-oz serving of fish which is not as dense is about the size of a checkbook.
A fistful or 1 tennis ball is about the size of 1-cup while ½ cup fits into the palm of your cupped hand which is about the size of a computer mouse.
4 dice = 1 oz of cheese which is about the size of your thumb
1 thumb tip = 1 tsp; you can use that to see how much butter you are having
I hope you find these visuals handy- talk to you soon!
