Watch Your Portion Sizes!
Hi guys, Mary back; let’s talk about our portion sizes increasing over the last 2-3 decades. When we eat larger portion size, we are eating more calories. Calories that we do not burn, we store; 3,500 calories equals 1 pound. If we eat an excess of 500 calories/day at the end of 1-week, 7-days that is 1 pound that we have gained. 500 calories x 7-days = 3,500.
Now let’s look to see how our portions have increased through the years. Your average cheeseburger, pizza, muffin, coffee, cookie, pasta dinner have all increased in size. We have this perception that bigger is better and that we are getting more bang for our buck when we are served a big portion size- not true, stay away from that notion.
Look at the average bagel from 10-20 years ago; 3-oz bagel; look at what I picked up this morning; almost double in size!
Watch your portion sizes, know what you’re eating; keep burning those calories, stay healthy and I will see you soon!
