Our active shooter drill held on Sunday November 4th 2018 gave all the chance to put what we learned in our trainings and table top exercises into practice. The simulation started at 4 AM giving our law enforcement agencies the opportunity to run through a realistic scenario as if they had responded to our hospital. Over 120 officers, in pairs of two, went through an evolution that included actors playing both shooters and hospital staff. To test our own Armed and Dangerous Individual plan, we put our Long Island Community Hospital staff through a scenario depicting an active shooter in a patient area, with staff and 20 patient actors in place, made up with realistic looking wounds. Our local fire and EMS agencies were also invited to participate, testing our ability to work together in a unified command system. All of our partners had high praise for the planning and execution of this highly successful and informative drill.
