Long Island Community Hospital is a level III trauma center as verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Committee on Trauma’s Verification Review Committee.

As a level III trauma center, the Hospital is equipped with 24-hour immediate coverage by emergency medicine physicians and prompt availability of general surgeons and anesthesiologists; a comprehensive quality assessment program; transfer agreements with a level I (highest level) trauma center; a continuing education program for members of the trauma team including nursing and allied health staff; and a prevention and outreach program for the community. Our specialists also include neurologists, orthopedic surgeons and others who are critical members of the trauma center.

Through our demonstrated quality trauma care, severe and sudden injuries that are potentially life-threatening or limb-threatening receive rapid emergency care through a coordinated prehospitalization through rehabilitation program that delivers evidenced-based best practices. Motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, falls, injuries as a result of violence, illness requiring rapid resuscitation and other traumatic events are emergently treated by our highly coordinated medical and surgical teams supporting the trauma center.
